My Dear Silence..
I close my eyes and listen
The distant rumblings on the road keep me awake.
It’s dark now, not a single soul around
Yet, I’m smitten! I’ve fallen in love with the silence, not just for namesake!
All my senses are labouring intently as the aroma of jasmine wafts gently
The cool autumn breeze is working to transport me into serenity.
I’m awash with a feeling that is truer than most
I’m filled with a peace; my eyes begin to flutter & close!
I want to hold onto this moment, hope it doesn’t cease
The sweet scent of roses drives away every wink of sleep.
I look out the window into the night!
I see clearly as my eyes adjust to the light
There is only one who is oh so right
My precious shines forth,
My dear silence!
I see everything so crystal clear now, the dark seems so bright!

Dear Reader,
I must apologise I’ve been away for a while!
Lost in the crowd of priorities that hound most of us in this life!
Alas, I have returned to pen this to you.. don’t think I have forgotten you.
Far from it… you’re always on my mind!
I wrote this poem on a night, like so many others. There was nothing unique about it, just another night in the passage of life.
I couldn’t sleep and lay there in my bed listening to the sounds of the city. I think you can really only get a sense, beyond the obvious, for a city only at night when you take in the sights and sounds and can feel the city permeate your every fibre.
You can try it now… close your eyes as you lay in bed and listen. I mean really listen… you’ll start to hear the droning of cars, the ever present wailing of sirens which herald the fact that someone is not having a great night or needs some assistance. Take a deep breath.. and just clear your mind.
Every metropolitan city in the world has a soundscape that is totally unique yet so familiar to anyone that resides in one.
I’m right there with you… the silence of the night is something we can share with one another no matter who you’re or where you’re. This is the time of day I can think most clearly.. away from all the mundanity of life.
I feel connected to you.. wherever you’re! We can share this moment in the night from our respective places and know we’re not alone.
