Guru or Employee?

Daily writing prompt
What makes a teacher great?

A True Guru

A teacher can be one of the most influential forces in the lives of human beings undergoing any form of education. Whether that education is academic, delivered in a structured format, or general life knowledge disseminated by unstructured lessons.

What makes a teacher great..?

A teacher must not only impart theoretical knowledge to be great but it is imperative they embody the very essence of what they are teaching. To be great they must practice what they preach.. otherwise they risk becoming a shill, a simplistic mouthpiece controlled by puppet masters far removed from the students.

A great teacher or Guru is someone who maintains their witness to the power of wisdom and good behaviour in front of their students, even when the conditions of life aren’t conducive.

having done this, a teacher no longer remains simply an employee.. but transcends to being a Guru.

I can recall the teachers that have stuck in my mind not only for the academic lessons they taught, but for the respect I could attribute to them. Whether it was they way they were attentive, passionate or modelled good behaviour.

A teacher who approaches the imparting of wisdom as simply a job can never become a true Guru. They will never be remembered.. they will never be respected.

A Guru is wise, caring, disciplined and dutiful. Dutiful to the point of self-sacrifice for they know, they are building a legacy which are the lives of the next generation. A guru has immense responsibility, done correctly it has rewards that can never be quantified by wealth. For their reward is the lives they shape, like rough stones cut into facets producing precious diamonds!
