A human connection predicated on love will be the most enduring experience of our lives. All the money, cars, dresses, handbags will one day fade away but what remains is the way your partner makes you feel.

We all reminisce on a time when the mere aroma of that special someone entering the room would set your heart racing.. or the slightest touch was electrifying.

The question I’m passionate about is why then do so many couples struggle to sustain relationships that started off incredibly?

A lot of discourse throughout human history, on this subject, points to a leading cause being neglect.

When you are in love, we often are oblivious to the value our partner brings.. however, fundamentally the reason we value something is due to scarcity.

If one could simply find love on every street corner… or dig up gold in every piece of land… their value would diminish.

So then, a loving relationship needs to be valued and cherished.

If a person finds an incredible watch and realises its value.. that person will need to take care of it. Every time they’re done wearing it.. the watch will need to be put away in a safe place to preserve its value and its longevity.

Similarly, in a relationship where you know the value your partner brings.. you must put in the work, the attention and care to preserve what you have.

Yes, this takes work.. and true relationships are hard work… this itself attests to value. If your relationship doesn’t require some self-sacrifice, change or effort.. its just an illusion.

The modern world and prevailing philosophies have deceived people into accepting hookups masquerding as loving relationships.

The ‘use and throw’ mentality has cheapened a truly loving relationship so people think there is no longer any need to value what you have.. I can simply get another.

The truth only becomes clear when you have thrown away many valuable relationships.. life has passed by and you find that the watches weren’t the issue.. it was how you handled them!
