How did we get here..?

Snowflake Culture

After a terrible day at work you may find yourself complaining to a colleague how upset you’re while exclaiming the world has gone mad… you don’t literally mean it.. but its a statement of utter disbelief at how your company is operating.

Guess what? it seems the world really has gone mad to the point where society’s own goodness is being exploited to pour gasoline on an already smouldering log cabin we call our world!

The video above shows a college professor who confronts college students displaying educational/promotional flyers with a the pro-life stance.

She allegedly verbally berates and insults the students for undertaking a constitutionally protected and completely legal and peaceful form of expression. Her alleged attack contains a charge that the pro-life display “..is violent, you’re triggering my students.”
Who are these snowflakes?

The same professor allegedly goes on to put a machete to a journalist’s neck the following day. Any display of violence is obviously insane, but let me come back to the heart of the matter.

How did we come to this?

Democracy, Free Speech and other freedoms used to mean something.. they used to be touted by liberal people as the last bastion of hope for a world that had for far too long been conservative and backward.

I am a firm believer that whilst no form of governance will ever be perfect, democracy founded on a constitution that was developed with consensus by the people and for the people, is the most effective framework we have for a free and equitable society.

The students in the video were exercising their rights under democratic freedoms, yet they were attacked by a educational leader, in an attempt to suppress their freedoms..

I find her charge that her students were being triggered by an opposing view, completely insane. Certain elements of society have for decades declared that conservatives have no right to interfere or oppose their sense of expression, views or speech.

What is unfortunate, is discourse in society is becoming harder and harder because snowflakes get triggered when opposing points of view are presented. However, you will notice these snowflakes will apply a different set of rules to them compared to you!

We all can have a voice in the free market place of ideas but the dialogue should be about the merits of the idea. The easiest way to identify a snowflake is when they start attacking you rather than discussing the merits of either their or your idea.

So how did we come to this? well as I said, we as the wider society started to give in to allowing subjective truths to replace absolute truths. Absolute truths are exactly what a democracy, via a documented constitution, is founded upon. If we erode reality in place of people’s subjective reality, we weaken the foundation of a nation and by extension, society.

We must stand up (peacefully) for absolute truths.. a person’s feelings are not more important than reality. I may want to believe gravity is unfairly holding me down on this earth, but if I try to jump off a cliff, gravity is not going to care about my feelings.
