I take a moment to gaze back and ponder
The very first moment I encountered you!

It seems like a lifetime ago my memories wander
Seeing you I felt blessed, vindicated and renewed!

I trusted, devoted and gave you my all
You invoked in me a joy I never knew I had lost!

You continued to intrigue, entice and enthral
I could never have imagined what It would cost!

If I had a chance to see you again I would ask
The many unanswered questions that burn!

Why did you veil your ugly truth behind a mask
Why did you acquiesce at first only to spurn!

Now as time and pain have clouded my eyes
I see clearly your intrinsic nature!

Your betrayal, your lies have made me wise
Showed the folly of chasing such a creature!

If I were to see you once more
I would give you a wide berth
I would definitely ask you this question
Why do you cause so much hurt?
