A True Romance..

You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?

There is nothing quite as enchanting for a true sojourner than getting lost in the familiar soothing rhythm of a train voyage.

A journey across the expanse of a country onboard a locomotive is truly a romantic tryst of traveller and his quest. The quest that drives him and the destination that longs for him.

The train snakes its way through metropolitan hubs, long forgotten towns and through the red blooded hinterland. This is the experience of a transcontinental trip on board luxury trains like the Indian Pacific in Australia.

Although a car allows for innumerate and unscheduled stops.. one must remember the drive can be gruelling. In contrast, a train traveller’s most tiresome task can be choosing what champagne to sip as they watch the hills roll on by.

Your luxury sleeping berth is made up prior to bed and you must simply slip into it and drown out the world with the swaying of the train.

On board a train you can walk around, meet fellow travellers and stretch your legs.. something not possible in the other modes of transport.

You can read a favourite book or simply gaze out the window and soak in the Aussie bush. The endless red earth splattered with green oasis of native shrubs and almost alien flora seen no where else.

There is no question in my mind that a train journey is by far the most reminiscent of a by-gone era. A simpler yet seemingly more luxurious age of train travel on board famous voyages such as the Orient Express, the Trans-Siberian Railway or The Great American Railroad.

Before I leave this earth, I desire to traverse this Great Land Australia on board a train and see the sun rise and set on two oceans (Indian & Pacific).
