What is true love?
Most of us wouldn’t know it if it smacked us in the face..
Our perceptions of the world around us are shaped by external stimuli, so much so that we end up with a heavily skewed and confused picture of life and love.
At the risk of being one more voice in the mix to further bamboozle you all… I’m taking this time to go back to basics.
Back to Basics
True love is a felt phenomena to me.. at the core can you answer this question.. do I like the company of this person beyond mere pleasantries and trivial experiences of life?
People say love can happen at first sight and you have no control over it… I would say… staying in love is a choice!
By that I mean, true love must be a sustained phenomena.. otherwise we would all be falling in and out of love every day.
A good test to know if you’re in love, speaking from personal experience, you feel that persons absence when they’re not around..
Everyone can either fane joy or psyche themselves into enjoying a moment or date or cool experience with someone.. or you get help from someone or have a shoulder to cry on in your darkest hour…. this doesn’t mean you’re in love.
Couples will go on elaborate dates to impress and woo one another and everything seems amazing.. exclaiming rather quickly I have found the proverbial ‘One.’
What do feel when you’re happily sitting at home with your dinner and your streaming service (insert streaming platform of choice) is blaring out a favourite show.. do you wish that this person was with you to share that moment?
When you have some good news…who do you want to share it with first? If you need advice… who are you turning to first?
It is rather a painful and perhaps sombre measure of spotting true love.. but I have seen it work..
I imagine finding love like you’re sitting on a train journey to work… you happen to meet someone that captivates you.. you share some laughs.. some cries.. some meals and goodbyes.. the train lurches and comes to a halt. That person you met and fell in love with has to get off here..they will see you again tomorrow they say and you depart.
What do you feel when they’re gone.. longing or indifference?
