New Paradigm..

I have been discovering through my life and people around me, the importance of undergoing a paradigm shift.

Life is a dynamic beast, ever undulating, lurching and settling..so in order to deal with the unexpected sorrows and joys, we need a paradigm shift.

“Paradigm shift is for the mindful; but those who refuse to adopt to new ways of looking at things will always catch yesterday’s train, flight or bus.”

Dr. Lucas D. Shallua

It is nothing but obvious that if we maintain the same perspectives on life we’re bound to run into trouble. However, it is not enough just to acknowledge we need a paradigm shift, but we must first understand the following:

  • Why we need a change?
  • How to make the change?

Why we need a change?

Everyone has heard the old saying about history repeating etc… so I won’t belabour the point.

The primary driver I see for change is the impact our past or present context is having on us. Keeping oneself in the familiar miserable, depressing and contentious surroundings is going to stifle progress in areas that matter more than the tangible successes of this life, they will re-enact deep emotional scars.
Like old wounds being gouged out every time, re-opening old emotional pain distorts a person gradually to the point they may wake up one day and not recognise the twisted creature reflected back in the mirror.

How to make the change?

As I said, I’m learning from personal experience and through those of others. The consensus has always been when dealing with difficult situations in your life:

  • Toughen up & live through the pain
  • Start new

It is a matter of discretion which of these two paths we take in the situations we encounter. They both have their merits, but require a paradigm shift to be successful.

As the quote above from Dr. Lucas Shallua says, without a paradigm shift, a person will continue to have the experiences of the past again and again.

Like a person taking the same scary roller coaster everyday, and being surprised when they throw up on the familiar loop… they should know the loop is there but it’s like they become oblivious to its existence…

The people on this roller coaster will need to administer anti-nausea medications and ride it out..

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

– Albert Einstein

I am a proponent of starting fresh when you weigh up the emotional pain you would suffer by remaining in the old context.. this is the only way to not continue to “catch yesterday’s train, flight or bus.” It is never going to be easy at first, it will take immense courage and persistence but the result will be freedom!

The takeaway for me is no matter why we decide to make a change… we need a paradigm shift in our mind as to how we will handle life. Clearly the old ways aren’t working so time to try a new approach.
