Write about your dream home.
A home is a place of belonging.. creating a dream home, it’s a subjective endeavour that will no doubt emulate ones personality, style and ambitions.
Location, Location, Location
I would firstly start with the location, no dream home would be complete if it is not in a place I actually want to live, for me it has to be the mountains.
Say what you will about water front vistas or sky dwelling glamours.. the mountains is where I find my happy place. Nestled amongst soaring sandstone cliffs and eons old flora, you get a sense of time standing still.
Mountains are a representation of the slow progress of time.. and it gives you a reprieve from the hasty slippage of time represented by other constantly altering landscapes like the beach or a bustling metropolis.

Design & Layout
A grand design is a requisite for a dream home.. but grand does not necessary mean an ostentatious, gaudy monstrosity dominating the pristine locals of a mountain community.
The grandeur in the home would portray a beautiful pairing of contemporary ‘Scandinavian’ & ‘Lake House’ design language to showcase a stunningly fetching, yet cosy abode. Here are some examples… my dream home could be like..

(Erin, 2021)
My dream home would feature high ceilings with oversized windows to enable natural light streaming into every living space. The lighting would invoke a sense of airiness and volume to the house.
One must be mindful that large expanses made up of solely industrial materials retract from the cosy feel that would undoubtedly come from any home I would reside in. The only way to make a home inviting, cosy and open is to utilise natural material elements throughout. Timber beams… stone facade fireplaces and mantles and most certainly the use of natural leathers (couches, rugs) with brown, earthy and dark tones would be a requisite.

(Dunlap Hollow, 2021)
The house would be split into at least two wings to ensure utmost privacy for me and my guests. The kitchen would and adjoining lounge or family room would be the focal point of the dwelling.. bringing together everyone at the close of a work day.
I would like a powder room in each wing of the house in addition to ensuites to every bedroom. Powder rooms would feature artistic vanity creations that serve as a statement piece and add a sense of panache to an otherwise dull, functional room.
The Master suite would have unhindered views of the mountains outside through windows that frame the landscape like a painting. No bedroom of mine would exist without a natural stone wood fireplace.
Lastly, I would want a study and library punctuated by art and design elements representative of my passions, hobbies and requirements for an escape for some ‘me time.’
Exterior grounds & Garage
The surroundings of the house would be flow into the natural wilderness and splendour of the mountains..featuring a garden combining flowering trees and native bush. A pond with a water feature and Koi fish would be nice..
The Garage would be setup for my passion for automobile design.. with gadgetry to enable tinkering on my cars. Plus, quick access from the Master Suite would be a requirement to enable a quick getaway in times of emergency.
hmm… there is a lot more to this dream house.. stop stay tuned for more.
